42 Year Old Man Cowers to 18 Year Old

Louis CK Episode 9: "Bully" made me want to puke.

The episode was bookended, as usual, by funny stand-up, but in between was a long, dark, intentionally non-comic story about the power that teenage bullies can still have on grown-ass men. It was deliberately uncomfortable. The confrontation ends with Louie's date getting turned off, viewing him and weak in spite of her intellectual compulsion to side with Louie seeking a non -confrontational path can't stand to see a grown man back down to a child.

I have to be honest, this situation was so foreign to me I couldn't relate. In fact, it pissed me off that there are grown men out there who are such blatant pussies that and they try to justify and rationalize it by simply "not engaging in a physical fight." Because he vast majority of people have never been in a fight or have never even thought or prepared for being in a fight. This is the wussification of the modern world. My generation has been told that: fighting and violence are wrong.

Let me make one thing crystal clear, violence and fighting are wrong when it is unjustified or used for ill-gotten gain. Let me make another point, there will always be people, nations and countries who will use violence as a means to gain control over weaker targets. And finally, the idea that violence is ALWAYS WRONG is an unnatural concept that goes against your instinct.

The show however gave a REAL REACTION when Louie's date said, "I know, I agree with you, but you're weak and it turned me off."

Let me ask you, what will you do when placed face to face with a bully? Get the girl and save the day? Or pray that the bad man goes away. Or fall prey to the "wussification of America".

Here's another factoid: most people avoid pain and discomfort. This is natural, you hunt when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired and fight when you're threatened. It's natural to stay comfortable. As a result,we have been trained to avoid pain and we justify it. The result: record obesity rates, army recruits who can even make the minimum physical standards and 42 year old men who when threatened by children, back down when they should be taking them over their knee.

I know, you talk a good game, "I would just kick his ass." My next question is, what have you done in the last 6 months that would prepare you or more to the point, enable you to kick anyone's ass? Have you lifted weights? When's the last time you completed a pull up? Do you even own a pair of running shoes? If you don't prepare, you're not prepared.

I still can't believe their are people who walk around like Louis CK. The episode infuriated me so much that I went and ran 6 miles last night (even after working out an hour and a half already). I was so pissed that I wanted to poses Louis CK and pimp slap that kid. I also felt bad for him because he is a victim of the Great Wussification.

Human beings are naturally lazy and avoid pain and discomfort at all costs. If left to our own devices humans would wind up looking like the human characters in Wall-E.
A blubbery mass of atrophied muscle. The less you have to fight scrape and survive, the more you will look like this. You need to train yourself to overcome the HUMAN LAZINESS GENE.

Lois CK blames a lot of his problems on his age. His show and other shows like it (Men of a Certain Age) focus on getting older and being a wussy. I submit to you this, if you're a wussy when you're older, you were a wussy when you were younger. You just choose to believe some revisionist history. It always "If I were younger..." Dude, you're 42, not 72. Get a grip tell that bullshit to these guys:

The cast of the expendables whose average age is close to 50. Do you think any of these guys are worried about 18 year old bullies?

What's you're excuse? Stallone is 65 years old!!! I'm not saying that you need to be like this...just more like this.

Say what you want about his cushy Hollywood lifestyle or rumors of HGH (Humn Growth Hormaone), he STILL has to do the work!!! If Louie looked like Stallone, he wouldn't have had a problem...he probably wouldn't have an act either so at this point he stuck being a pathetic, man-child, loser.

But you have a choice. You can continue to live a Louis CK life, to which I've nothing to tell you except Thank You. Because as long as there are people like you, people like me have to fight less. The more sheep for the wolves to feed on the less chance of them bothering me or my family.

You know what the irony is, the more you prepare for war, the more you have peace. When everyone knows who the man is, everyone knows his place. When you're prepared for conflict, people know it and don't mess with you. Why bother with you when there's always a soft, white Louis CK coming around the corner.

I Get Hit in the Balls a lot

Let's get one thing straight to the women in the audience. To men, their balls are the most important item on their bodies. Take for example when soccer players line up for a free kick. They have a clear choice: protect my nuts or protect my head. 100% without fail, they choose balls over brains. They will take a ball kicked at 100 mph to the face before they will even chance a graze to the nuts. On the list of priorities, the testicles are numero uno.

This is because it causes us the most pain and will cripple any man regardless of size, strength or will. This is a universal truth. Look at every combat system in the world from the Zulus to the Aztecs and you will see the balls are number one on the hit list. Our balls have been under attack since the dawn of time. There is no doubt that before Cain hit Abel with a rock he kicked him in the nuts first.

Recently I've done what most 40 year-olds do when they decide to stop having kids and the condom is NO LONGER an option...I got the big V (that's vasectomy to you young bucks). After almost 40 years of battle, my boys have been put out to pasture.

As I breezed through recovery I realized my nuts are pretty tough. I had heard horror stories from balls swelling to the size of grapefruit to non-operational equipment. Regardless of the warnings of my fellow man, this procedure was midnight run. Of course, putting my most prized possession out to pasture has caused me to reflect on the years of service my testicles have provided and I came to one startling conclusion...I get hit in the balls a lot.

It started with my older sister. She began ballet at the age of 5 and was no older than 10 when she realized that the best way to get a boy under control was a battement technique to the family jewels. For those of you who don't know, a battement translates into "beating". This is a generic term for various movements in ballet by which the leg is extended and then returned repeatedly (add fast and hard). My sister mastered this with awe inspiring accuracy. This was also he time I realized my balls were the "chink in the armor". The pain one feels the first time they are hit squarely in the balls is excruciating. Ladies, don't talk to me about child birth..which sucks and defies physics, but you don't run the risk of experiencing that feeling during every physical confrontation.

By age 7 I started wrestling and there was no rest for my little nuggets. While some kids opted for the protection of a plastic cup, I chose the cool kid option to go "sans protection", leaving the fate of my boys up for grabs so to speak. Unfortunately my "devil may care" attitude was not without a price. That fateful day was the day we wrestled the "Purple Wave" from Garfield, NJ.

The first time someone grabs your nuts is really an unforgettable experience. One would hope it would be in the back seat of your dads Oldsmobile, but in my case it was on the wrestling mat with another kid. We were wrestling Garfield and after the first few matches we realized that those kids had a penchant for nut-grabbing, my opponent was no exception. I was on the bottom to start the second period. When the whistle blew I remember trying to stand up when he kid literally reached from behind and squeezed my grapes. What happened next, shocked both of us.

Feeling a foreign hand on the holiest of holy part of my body was like getting hit with a bolt of lighting. I literally launched myself from his grasp. The force I used can only be compared to that superhuman strength that a mother gets when she lifts her car off of her trapped child. Needless to say, I needed no more motivation to finish the match with a victory. There was NO WAY that kid was getting another chance at an impromptu hernia exam.

As I grew, I put my nuts in greater peril. Football, baseball, wrestling and the frequent playground scraps started to condition my juevos to "take the pain" a bit. In high school the hits got bigger and the guys got stronger. During the Region 1 wrestling finals my junior year, that guy spent more time in my crotch than my girlfriend. After the match I felt he should have at least bought me dinner first.

When I was 15, I started karate and not a night went by that someone was in the fetal position gasping for air and writhing in pain. The first thing you discover in karate is that being able to kick high is not really an advantage. When sparring someone who kicks lower than you, they will always kick you in the balls. Take the round kick for example. While you're throwing a high, graceful kick to the head of your opponent, they're frantically trying to return the favor with a kick of their own whch will end up right in your nuts. Because you're extended leg literally will guide their low kick, right into your nuts and if you're cup is not in the right place..you're going down.

Now, let me tell you about people who can't kick high. They're nervous because they can't kick well. Since they're nervous the try harder. Translation: they kick harder. I have fielded more kicks to the crotch than I care to remember. The end result: you may score the point, but they won the fight since you are lying on the ground trying to uncross your eyes. So much for kicking high. I haven't kicked high since 2000.

Later in college I started to work security and get into the trouble that accompanies those types of endeavors. The worst I can recall was the time I was literally picked up by my nuts and slammed down on the sidewalk by a mountain of a guy. That left a mark and introduced me to the effectiveness of frozen peas.

Judo was another torture my gonads were forced to endure. A popular throw is called Uchi Mata or "Inner Thigh Throw". As the name suggests, this throw is MEANT for the inner thigh, but any judoka will tell you it's more INNER than THIGH. People learning this particular throw really try hard. Like most newbies, they adopt an "if its not working throw harder" attitude. Here's the rub, an effective counter for this technique is to advance towards them and jam them with your hip this works against a good fighter since bending over or backing away is NOT an option. Against a poor fighter it puts your balls on the front line. Now you won't get thrown, but something far worse will happen, a calf in the nuts. So you have a choice to make: train for the good fighters OR protect your nuts against the poor fighters. You can only guess I opted for greatness and sacrificed my balls to every inexperienced judo player to attempt the uchi mata.

And if that wasn't enough, I actually purposely "toughened my boys" to take the pain. Check out Module 6 of The Self Defense Training System (SDTS) and you'll see me take the fellas through a little conditioning session (this actually works real well).

In the end, despite my best efforts, I was still able to father two children and lead a happy and productive life. At this point, I would like to thank my balls for putting up with my behavior over the past 40 years and let them know that without them none of this would be possible. I hope they enjoy their retirement and I will see them lounging poolside in Miami.

Some people say I have brass balls, but now you know, they're just tougher than most.

The two Big Lies Martial Artists Like to Tell

Martial Artist's Big Lie #1. I train 7 days a week, 8 hours a day for 25 years

Sure you do and I suppose those are magic beans as well?

When it comes to training, no one can lie like a martial artist. If they did it once, they did it all the time if they did it twice, they did it forever. If they trained once in January 2000 and again in 2005...that's 5 years of training! Listen, here's the truth about training: you can only do it in intense spurts for so long because your body and your mind can't endure prolonged intensive training. Let's take a step outside the wonderful world of martial arts and look at professional and elite athletes.

Athletes target their training for a competition or season. There is an off season, a preseason and an in season. An athlete wants to be a peak physical an mental condition at the time of competition. An athlete also wants to recover before preparing for the next event. Elite athletes, including college competition, have about 8 years. After that time your body will break down. The infamous Dan Gable Olympic Champ wrestler and former Iowa Hawkeye head coach stopped at the age of 23 because his body couldn't take the punishment of training. Now in his seventies he is held together by fake joints.

When someone tells me they train full contact or high intensity for a few hours a day seven days a week, I have to call bullshit. Either we have different definitions of full contact or your lying. Any work out of high intensity will tear you up over extended period of time. To tell you the truth, when I was putting myself through those types of work outs, the last thing I want to do is to post about it on the net. I did everything I could to forget them. It's only now that I can look back at them with the "those were the good old days" attitude. But I'm not going to lie, the only good part about training was when it was over.

Martial Artist's Big Lie#2. You must always train and practice

For the rest of your life? Doesn't there come a time where you've acquired enough skill. Hey, maybe you're not Bruce Lee yet, but maybe you don't want to be Bruce Lee, maybe you just want to be Brandon Lee. Ask a martial arts instructor if you need to keep training, the answer will always be YES (never ask a barber if you need a haircut either). But let me ask you, how is it that boxers still have a punch in their 60s and baseball players can still throw and catch. Not as good as when they were young, but it's still better than the majority of the population. The reason is simple: core motor skills like throwing or kicking a ball and swinging a bat or a club will stay with you for the rest of your life. The more simple the action, the less muscle memory needs to be created. Simple movements stay, complex movements deteriorate.

I know I can go out right now and kick a ball half way across a football field and I haven't done it in years. I also know that I can knock a dude's head clean off with an edge of hand and I do not practice everyday. Heck it's been months since I actually practiced an edge of hand! Simple movements become instinctive, complex movements do not.

Techniques in the Self Defense Training System like the edge of hand, chin jab, hammer fist, elbows, knees and stomps are all core strength and gross motor movements. I won't be able to do a jump spinning kick when I'm 60, but I will be able to knock someone out with a chin jab.

The fact is, you don't need 1/8 as much as training as you think you need so feel free to call BULLSHIT on the next keyboard ninja who blogs about how many years he's done something or another. Believe me when I tell you, the guys who actually go through that type of training are in no mood to talk about it.

Never Throw The First Punch

Never Throw the First Punch

Damian Ross, the Self Defense Company

I can hear my father now. “Never throw the first punch.” This mantra has been drilled in your brain since you were a wee toddler. I can remember sitting in the principal’s office after one of my weekly playground scraps waiting for the question, “Who threw the first punch?” It is the quintessential deciding factor of guilt in use of force. The idea of waiting until you are physically attacked before you can defend yourself is the guideline by which all use of force and self defense cases are judged. Even in martial arts you are taught the martial arts are for defense only. This combined with “never throw the first punch” have put you at a dangerous disadvantage.

When I was working in my teens and older I noticed something incredible, the guy who threw the “first punch” usually won the fight. On the playground or in the neighborhood you can get away with not throwing the first punch simply because your attacker’s intent is not to seriously injure; rape or kill you. On the playground of on the block, the fights are usually to prove a point among people you see on a regular basis. In the outside world among grown men and women this is extremely dangerous.

In the outside world, the recipient of the first punch is usually the recipient of the second punch, the third punch, the first kick and the final stomp. Attackers or brutal and relentless and don’t think much of the consequences of their actions. My early training in martial arts NEVER prepared me for this reality.

I was trained to wait to be physically attacked; to wait for the grab, the punch or the stab. What I saw and what I experienced in my late teens and early twenties told me that it was too late to wait for that. The smart street fighters knew where to stand and when to attack. Most time, the fight was over before it started. Either someone was out cold or people were pulling the guy off before he kicked his skull in.

Never throw the first punch is some of the worst advice I ever received.

Now, I’m not a violent person. I am not one to start trouble (ending it is a different story). But the “never throw the first punch” or “martial arts are for self defense” are concepts that pertain to intentions and lifestyle not tactics. These ideas suggest that you don’t look for trouble, don’t seek to hurt or injure others and live a peaceful life. Your training IS FOR DEFENSE ONLY. You are not robbing old ladies and stealing candy from babies. You are living a law abiding life. You work, pay taxes and enjoy time with family and friends and you have the right to protect your life style and loved ones from harm.

So how can you do both, throw the first punch and live the lifestyle you want to live? In module 1 of the Self Defense Training System we show you how to establish distance and determine what your targets intentions are instantly, without question. This allows you to reveal your attackers true motives and let you get the upper hand and allow you to stop the fight before it starts. What you learn in 5 minutes took me 2 years to figure out. Hopefully you won’t have to accumulate so many knocks to the head.

Mujaheddin REAL hero, play around with The Self Defense Training System

While visiting one of the CounterNarcotic Police Headquartesrs in Norhthern Afghanistan I was able to give an impromptu class on Self Defense. The Afghan I was working with was a former Mujaheddin Col who fought against the Soviets. Though small in stature, this man commanded respect from those around him. Wounded four different times in action against the Soviets, this was one warrior I was thankful was on my side.

One Time At Band Camp...

High School Girl Defeats Two Attackers with Baton (twirling that is)

Article Credit to Jay Jorgenson

April 24th, 2009 QUARTZ HILL, Calif. (AP) — Don't mess with the marching band. That's what California authorities are saying after a 17-year-old girl used her marching band baton to beat back two would-be muggers.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Michael Rust says the Quartz Hill girl was walking to school April 24 when two men approached her from behind, tried to grab her coat and demanded money.

Instead, one got a punch in the nose and the other a kick to the groin. Rust says the girl then beat both of them with her band baton before she ran away.

The men had not been caught. But Rust says there's a clear message to take from the encounter:

"The moral to this story is don't mess with the marching band girls, or you just might get what you deserve. Final score: marching band 2, thugs 0."

Self Defense Training Center Opens Its Doors in Uniontown, PA.

Uniontown, PA- The Self Defense Company is opening its second training center in Uniontown PA, US. This will be the second official location this year.

Director of Instructor Development, Michael Archangel is extremely optimistic. "The reception from the community has been awesome. We have spent the last several months establishing ourselves as the authority in personal protection."

The maximum effect, minimum time in training programs have broken down the normal stigmas associated with this type of training.

"These are similar systems used to teach elite fighting units who have limited time to train. But instead of the extremely short time table, we have modified it so that you don't have to be an elite soldier to learn it."

For more information you can email Mr. Archangel at Michaela@theselfdefenseco.com or call 724-557-1080
